The two marlas
The marla descends from the British survey unit of 1/160 acre — 272.25 sq ft. Housing authorities in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi standardised on a rounder 225 sq ft marla (20 marla to a 4,500 sq ft kanal), and DHA’s plot sizes are drawn to it. Revenue records in parts of Punjab still use the larger unit. If a document’s square-feet figure does not reconcile with its marla figure, this is nearly always why.

Is a Margalla Enclave 10 Marla plot exactly 10 marla?
Not quite: 35 × 65 ft is 2,275 sq ft, which is 10.11 marla on the 225 sq ft measure — DHA calls it 250 sq yd, which is 2,250 sq ft. The 5 Marla (1,125 sq ft) and 1 Kanal (4,500 sq ft) plots are exact.
How many kanal in an acre?
